Land Design Weekend

Feeling blessed and excited after a truly inspiring day plotting and scheming. Here are some photos taken from our recent Land Design meeting for Lyme Regis Common Ground!

We explored how you stack multiple regenerative agricultural enterprises on the land. We created an overlay of the land using our contour map (woven together from many hours of drone footage) and divided it into zones according to microclimate, slope, light, water and wind conditions. By identifying ecological niches, we can see which farming practices created them and will therefore maintain them, and how diversity can be added into the weave.

It was super exciting to take our map and overlay it with all the various zones that fit with the shape of the land (silvopasture, forest garden, community farm, water points etc). These were drawn from everyone's individual land usage proposals, and it was quite astonishing to see how much variation there was even though everyone was working within the same parameters. Turns out there are as many ways of practicing regenerative agriculture as there are people to practice it!

The overall results of this meeting will be skilfully rendered into a whole site plan for Lyme Regis Common Ground. Watch this space!
